St. Patrick’s Day is a great opportunity to have some fun and be creative with your children. Kids love the legends and stories that are associated with St. Patrick's Day including leprechauns, pots of gold, and lucky four-leaf clovers.

Here are some great St. Patrick’s Day crafts to spark their interest:

For this craft project you will need green construction paper, 2 green pipe cleaners, scissors, glue, and a pencil. Cut out a three inch wide strip of construction paper that would be long enough to wrap around your head. Once you have the correct length, glue the edges of the paper together to form a circle. Then, attach the two pipe cleaners to opposite side of the circle. Many kids also love to twist the pipe cleaners into a zigzag or swirly shape. Help your kid trace the shape of a shamrock onto another piece of construction paper. Cut out two shamrocks, then attach each one to the top of the pipe cleaners. These should now look like shamrock antennas. Continue to decorate the crown with your kid’s name, stickers, markers, glitter, jewels, etc.

Have kids decorate a cardboard box with construction paper, tissue papers, washi tape, markers, or stickers. Kids should hide a small treasure for the leprechaun to lure them in, such as gold glitter, candy, or cookies. Have the kids set their newly decorated traps out before they go to sleep on March 16 then let them awake to a heap of chocolate gold coins or fun stickers left behind by the leprechaun. 

For this St. Patrick’s Day craft you will need the following: various colors of tissue paper, glue, marker, large piece of white paper, and scissors. Help your child trace a large rainbow onto the white paper with a pot of gold at the end of it. Cut out one inch by one inch squares of tissue paper. If your child is new to using scissors, this is a great activity to help them learn how to properly hold the scissors. Demonstrate to them what a square looks like, then help them cut out small squares in the paper. You can also show them how to cut out trapezoids, triangles, and rectangles to help them to learn other shapes. Then, help your child glue the squares onto the white paper, filling in the rainbow and pot of gold.

A leprechaun puppet is a great St. Patrick’s Day craft for kids. You will need the following: brown paper bag, various colors of construction paper, googly eyes, scissors, pencil, and glue. Cut out a five by five inch square from the green construction paper. Then, cut out a 2 inch wide and 7 inch long strip in the green construction paper. Glue the green square to the top of the brown paper bag opposite of where the opening is in the bag. Then, glue the smaller green strip to the bottom of the square to make it look like a top hat. Next, glue the googly eyes under the hat. Help your child cut out other shapes like a nose, mouth, beard, etc. Lastly, glue the shapes to the bag to complete the leprechaun’s face. Once it has dried, your child will be able to play with their leprechaun puppet!
